Days of Russian Culture to be held in Vietnam and Cambodia.The State Omsk Russian Folk Choir will be the headliner of the project.

From 23 to 25 March, two cities in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam—Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City—will host Days of Russian Culture in Vietnam. On 28 March, Days of Russian Culture for the first time will be held in the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Phnom Penh.

The Omsk Choir will present a unique concert program, Heirs of Siberia, which features songs, vocal and choreographic compositions dedicated to the region’s unexplored corners, everyday life, and holidays of Siberians. The performers’ stage costumes are stylized to reflect the various forms of Russian folk costume found throughout Siberia.

The program will include folk chants from the Altai Krai, Tomsk, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, and Omsk regions. The authentic character of the show will be enhanced by scenes and dances depicting traditional crafts: the audience will be treated to the vocal and choreographic composition We Are Forging And Smithing (Kovali-Kovali)  and the male choral composition Smithy (Kuznya), celebrating the art of blacksmiths. The vocal and choreographic scene Beyond the River will feature Russian folk songs, melodies, and dances united by the theme of ​​searching the purpose of life and man’s place in the world. The program will culminate in the scene Peasant Wives’ Predicaments (Babiy Pereplet), based on an old sketch about summer entertainments of young  country people from the collection of stories Living Antiquity. Weekdays and Holidays of the Siberian Village in the 18th – First Half of the 19th Centuries. The final vocal and choreographic composition, My Dove-coloured Drake (Selezen’ Moi Siz-kosaty), will feature dance tunes for button accordion and vivid  ditties.

The grand opening of the Days of Russian Culture in Vietnam will take place on 23 March at the Palace of Vietnam-Soviet Friendship, Culture, and Labor in Hanoi. The series of events will continue on 25 March at the Southern Region Army Theater in Ho Chi Minh City and on 28 March at the Chatomuk Concert Hall in Phnom Penh.

In addition, guests of the Days of Russian Culture will be invited to enjoy a unique exhibition of costumes and arts and crafts, specially prepared by the V. Polenov State Russian House of Folk Art, and a photo exhibition Cultural Heritage of Russia by the Russian Geographical Society. The former will showcase the most remarkable samples of Russian folk art: patchwork, embroidery, and lace, with folk costumes as a highlight. The photo exhibition will display the major natural and architectural landmarks of St. Petersburg and Moscow, the historical sites of Novgorod and Pskov, the ancient monasteries of Vladimir and Suzdal, and Russia’s natural treasures, from the majestic Lake Baikal to the picturesque volcanoes of Kamchatka.
