The Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Artists Competition discovered new talentsThe international competition was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the legendary opera singer

From 30 May to 4 June, the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center and the Great Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory hosted the 10th Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Artists Competition.

On 4 June, the third round and awards ceremony for the Competition laureates took place on the stage of the Great Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

The jury chair, artistic director of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center, and Honored Worker in the Arts of the Russian Federation Olga Rоstropovich congratulated all the contestants on their participation in the Competition and thanked the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Department of Culture, the Competition jury, the Opera Center team, and the audience.

The jury carried on the tradition of awarding personal prizes to the contestants. Olga Rоstropovich presented her special prize – a year of training at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center on a budgetary basis – to Anna Eliseeva and Vladimir Pushkarev – a year of training study at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center on a budgetary basis.

Fabio Armiliato invited Sofia Sakaniya to perform at a gala concert dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the death of opera singer Daniela Dessi, in order to accept a prize in her memory.

General Director of the Hungarian State Opera, Szilveszter Ókovács, presented his prize to Sofia Sakaniya, Kirill Popov, Chingiz Bairov, and Konstantin Fedotov – this was the invitation to participate in the production of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Budapest Opera House.

TACT agency artistic manager Sofia Rukin invited all the finalists to audition and offered collaboration to Sofia Sakaniya.

The Competition’s special prizes were awarded to:

Artistry Prize – Chingiz Bairov (baritone)

Prize for the best performance of a Russian aria – Kirill Popov (tenor)

Audience Award – Maria Seleverstova

Best Accompanist Diploma – Georgy Migunov

The winners of the 10th Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Artists Competition:

First Prize – Chingiz Bairov (baritone)

Second Prize – Sofia Sakaniya (soprano) and Ivan Borodulin (countertenor)

Third Prize – Maria Seleverstova (soprano) and Anatoly Badaev (bass)

The third-round participants performed with the orchestra of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center, conducted by Christian Knapp.

“It was a great honor for me to accept the offer to participate in the competition, as I love Moscow and Russian culture, as well as the ties between Italian and Russian cultures,” noted competition jury member Fabio Armiliato (Italy).

“This is a chance to demonstrate technique and artistic level. And judging by these, we can, we try to evaluate the singer’s performing level and figure out who has a future,” emphasized competition jury member and concert conductor Christian Knapp (USA).
