Moscow celebrated the Days of Culture of AbkhaziaThe grand opening of the Days of Culture of Abkhazia in Russia took place on 2 April at the Moscow Russian Song Theater

Among the distinguished guests were Alkhas Kvitsinia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Russian Federation, and Anna Gribanova, Director of the Department of State Support for Arts and Folk Art at the Russian Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Alkhas Kvitsinia explained that the event was organized by the Russian Ministry of Culture in close collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Abkhazia. He noted, “Today, Russian audiences will have the opportunity to encounter the beautiful art of Abkhazia—folk dances and songs performed by the renowned State Song and Dance Ensemble of Abkhazia, the main attraction of today’s celebration.”

Russian audiences enjoyed a performance by one of Abkhazia’s most vibrant and distinctive ensembles—the State Honored Folk Song and Dance Ensemble of the Republic of Abkhazia named after Vasily Tsargush, under the direction of Valery Tania.

For their performance in Russia, the ensemble prepared a special program that captures the beauty and diversity of Abkhaz folk songs and dances. For the Russian audience the ensemble performed the vocal and choreographic suite Abkhaz Wedding, the heroic folk song Ozbak, the ancient marching song Samatkhua, a Burka dance, and the famous song My Abkhazia by Soviet composer, Honored Artist of the Abkhaz ASSR Aslan Daurov, with lyrics by Abkhaz Soviet writer and poet, the laureate of the D. Gulia State Prize of the Abkhaz ASSR Ivan Tarba. The legendary “Katyusha” was also performed.

Events  within the framework of the cultural exchange between our countries will take place in three Russian cities. After performances in Moscow, events will continue in Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod. In mid-April, Days of Russian Culture will be held in Sukhum, the capital of the Republic of Abkhazia.
