A Bridge between culturesBahrain hosted the final events of 2025 to promote the Russian language

Events within the framework of the project A Complex of Cultural Events Abroad Aimed at Promoting and Popularizing the Russian Language took place from 14 to 15 December.

Lyudmila Agapkina, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Studies, Ethno-Oriented Pedagogy, and Digital Didactics at the Russian Language Institute of the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, delivered lectures on the Russian language in Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

“This project is undoubtedly of great importance, as it gives people abroad the opportunity to get acquainted with Russian culture, develop an interest in the Russian language, and learn about Russian traditions. Seeing is believing. By attending our Russian language events schoolchildren, students, and adults take the first step towards understanding Russia’s rich cultural heritage. This year, we launched the project in North Korea. The schoolchildren and students who attended the Russian language classes impressed us with their discipline, thoughtful approach to the intricacies of Russian grammar, and keen desire to absorb and explore Russian culture. The project, which concluded in Bahrain, is a shining example of how language can truly bridge cultures. The participants were not just listeners at the lectures – they were actively involved in dialogue, asked questions, shared their impressions, and expressed a sincere desire to continue learning Russian and maintain cultural ties with Russia,”

– said Lyudmila Agapkina.

On 14 December, a lesson for students Hello, Russia! was held at the Gulf University, and on 15 December, adult learners of Russian were invited to attend this lesson in Qalat Bahrain. On 14 December, Lyudmila Agapkina delivered a lecture for students with a basic knowledge of Russian, titled Verbs of Motion: ‘Let’s Move Forward!’ During the lecture, participants interacted with the lecture, gained a better understanding and sense of speech structure, and practiced constructing simple sentences in Russian.

In addition, the Qalat Bahrain Museum displayed a photo exhibition The Many Faces of Russia.

The project A Complex of cultural events abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language aims at increasing interest in the study of the Russian language and Russian culture. Events have already taken place in Tanzania, Myanmar, Venezuela, Morocco, Brazil, Laos, and Oman; the project’s geography continues to expand. In 2025 it was presented in North Korea, Djibouti, Turkmenistan, Nicaragua, and Bahrain.
