The Rachmaninoff International Competition received more than 500 applications from 33 countriesOn April 1, the birthday of Sergei Rachmaninov, the acceptance of applications for participation in the Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors ended.
In total, 529 applications were submitted for the competition from 33 countries: Russia, Belarus, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Poland, Serbia, Moldova, Slovenia, Iran, Israel, USA, Canada, Cuba, Brazil, Colombia, Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Ukraine, LPR, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan. The largest number of applications was submitted in the nomination conducting – 210, followed by the nomination piano – 167 applications and composition – 152 applications.
“To host such a large-scale project for the first time is a huge responsibility, but we are inspired by the interest that the competition has generated among musicians around the world. We are pleased to receive such a large number of applications and are confident that a very exciting musical competition awaits us all” – said the Artistic Director of the competition Denis Matsuev.
Upon completion of all technical procedures for processing applications, the next working phase will begin: the jury members will conduct a virtual selection of participants based on the submitted videos and scores (for participants in the composition category). The results of the qualifying round will be announced by April 30, after which 24 pianists, 24 conductors, and 12 composers will be admitted. The jury of the piano competition will be headed by Denis Matsuev, the jury of the conductors – Valery Gergiev, the composers competition – Alexander Tchaikovsky.
The Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors will be held from 14 to 27 June 2022 in Moscow on the stages of the Moscow Conservatory, the Concert Hall. P. I. Tchaikovsky and the Concert Hall. S. V. Rachmaninov (Philharmonia-2). The official opening will take place on June 15 at the Moscow State Conservatory. The competition was established in 2021 at the suggestion of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Denis Matsuev, on the eve of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninoff and the Year of Music in 2023.
