Masterpieces of Russian music from the 19th and 20th centuries were performed at a concert in Abu DhabiDays of Russian Culture took place in the UAE on 3 November
The opening ceremony was attended by Zhanna Alekseeva, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, and Murabak Al Nakhi, Deputy Minister of Culture of the UAE. Timur Zabirov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United Arab Emirates, was the guest of honor.
Zhanna Alekseeva extended gratitude to the Ministry of Culture of the United Arab Emirates for its hospitality: “This momentous event is clear evidence of the strong and harmonious ties that unite our peoples in a spirit of mutual understanding and respect. May this evening serve to further develop our friendly connections, strengthen trust, and become a shining example of how art unites peoples, opening new horizons for a shared future.”
Deputy Minister of Culture of the UAE Murabak Al Nakhi welcomed the participants and guests of the Days of Russian Culture in the United Arab Emirates and emphasized: “Today, culture unites us, serves as a common language for our peoples, and contributes to mutual cultural enrichment and the further development of the creative space in both countries.” Murabak Al Nakhi also thanked the Russian musicians and concert organizers and noted: “Your work demonstrates the spirit of true partnership.”
That evening, one of the most famous orchestras of our country, the Russian National Orchestra (Artistic Director – People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Rudin), presented a concert program of works by Russian composers on the stage of the Abu Dhabi National Theatre. Dmitri Jurowski conducted the concert. The concert featured soloists including People’s Artist of Russia Vadim Repin (violin), participant of the Bolshoi Theatre Youth Opera Program Elizaveta Narsia (soprano), and laureate of international competitions Yaroslav Abaimov (tenor).
The concert program opened with two works by Sergei Prokofiev: Symphony No. 1 in D Major (Classical) and Violin Concerto No. 2. In the middle of the evening the scene of Tatyana’s letter and Lensky’s arioso from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin, as well as pieces from his The Nutcracker suite were performed – the overture, March, and Waltz of the Flowers. The concert culminated with the famous overture from Mikhail Glinka’s opera Ruslan and Lyudmila.
In addition, the exhibition Mikhail Glinka: Musical Journeys, prepared by the Russian National Museum of Music, was open to visitors on the day of the concert.
