“Dance Unites Us”The Gzhel Dance Theater represented Russia at the international festival in Dushanbe

From 29 April to 3 May, the fourth International Festival of National Dance  “Dance Unites Us” was held in Dushanbe. It was dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s state independence and the 110th anniversary of the birth of People’s Artist of the USSR Gafar Valamat-Zade.

Russia was represented at the festival by the Gzhel Moscow State Academic Dance Theater. The company gave two performances on the stage of the Sadriddin Aini Tajik State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater — at the grand opening on 30 April and at the closing concert on 2 May. The program featured dance pieces Virtuosos, Barynya, and Kamarinskaya. Dance companies from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia also took the stage.

Marina Kuklina, Director of the Gzhel Moscow State Academic Dance Theater, said: “For three days, His Majesty Dance reigned on the main stage of Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe—the  Sadriddin Aini Tajik State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. The festival in Dushanbe brought together dancers from dance ensembles from various republics. Dance, especially folk dance, reflects the history of a nation, its soul, and feelings, uniting participants and spectators through shared traditions and the connection of generations and cultures.” The festival program also included a scientific conference dedicated to the creative legacy of Gafar Valamat-Zade.
