The XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition announces the start of accepting applicationsThe XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition will be held from June 19 to July 1, 2023 in Moscow and St. Petersburg with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The Grand and Small Halls of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall will be the venues of the Competition in Moscow. The gala concert of the laureates is planned at the Zaryadye Moscow Concert Hall. In St. Petersburg the Competition will be held at the venues of the Mariinsky Theatre, the St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic named after D.  Shostakovich, as well as the State Academic Capella of St. Petersburg. The final gala concert of the laureates will take place at the Mariinsky-2.

“We are happy to announce the start of accepting applications for the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition, which, by the way, is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year. Let me emphasize that musicians from all over the world are invited to participate in the Competition, as culture, art, music do not and cannot have any limitations. I wish success and inspiration to all talented musicians! Good luck!” said Olga Lyubimova, the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Among the nominations of the Competition are “piano”, “violin”, “cello”, “solo singing”, “woodwind instruments” and “brass instruments”. Each nomination will have its own jury chairman.

The age of the contestants in the specialties “piano”, “violin”, “cello”, “woodwinds” and “brass instruments” must be no younger than 16 and not older than 32 inclusive at the time of the opening of the Competition (June 19, 2023). The age of the contestants in the specialty “solo singing” must be no younger than 19 and no older than 32 inclusive at the time of the opening of the Competition (June 19, 2023).

Submission of documents and video applications is carried out online through the official website of the Competition – www.tchaikovskycompetition.com

Applications are accepted until April 1, 2023, the entry fees for participation in the Competition have been cancelled.

The jury members, who will conduct the auditioning of the participants throughout all the three rounds of the competition program, will preview the video applications and select future contestants based on the voting results.

No more than 25 pianists, 25 violinists, 25 cellists, 60 vocalists (30 men and 30 women) and 96 wind players (48 woodwinds and 48 brass instruments) will be allowed to participate in the First Round.

All the performances of the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition can be watched both online and recorded on the official website of the Competition and in the official group of the Competition in VKontakte social network.
