A group from Kurgan will perform in JordanThe Youth Folklore Ensemble Tsveten will represent Russia at the Festival for Culture and Arts jubilеe edition
From 22 July to 2 August, the ancient city of Jerash is hosting the 40th Jordan Festival for Culture and Arts. The Youth Folklore Ensemble Tsveten of the Kurgan Theater and Concert Association will represent the Russian Federation.
The Jordan Festival for Culture and Arts is held annually in Jerash, the ancient city of Jerash, one of the country’s most famous landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2026, the festival will be held for the 40th time and will feature cultural events of the whole variety of genres. The program will include 213 events, including concerts, theater productions, folklore shows, and art fairs. Performing arts groups from various countries will present their national art at over 15 locations across the ancient city, including the Southern and Northern Roman Theaters, Artemis Square, and the Oval Plaza.
The theme of this year’s festival, “A Legacy That Endures… Generations Unite,” reflects the festival’s vision of serving as a bridge between the ancient past of Jerash and the region’s contemporary culture.
On 1 August, the Russian Federation will be represented at the festival by the Honored Folk Art Group “Youth Folklore Ensemble Tsveten.” The program will include original compositions such as “At the Wells Gate,” “On the River,” “Drake,” “Maryushka,” “Where I Was Born,” and many other remarkable songs. The ensemble will perform at the Hippodrome, which will be a festival venue for the first time.
Viktor Shvedov, choirmaster and songwriter of the Youth Folklore Ensemble Tsveten and winner of the “Soul of the Trans-Urals” award, noted:
“Participation in the 40th annual Festival of Culture and Arts in Jordan is a unique opportunity for the ensemble to acquaint international audiences to the richness of Russian folk tradition. On the day of the festival show, the artists will present a vibrant program featuring ancient songs in modern arrangements, while traditional costumes will enhance the spectacular performance. The ensemble eagerly awaits sharing creative experiences with festival participants from different countries and hopes that their performances will resonate with the audience. Participation in such a large-scale event is a great honor and a big step in promoting our folk heritage.”
The Honored Folk Art Group “Youth Folklore Ensemble “Tsveten”” is one of the most popular folk groups in this genre in an online environment. It has its own colorful and recognizable musical style, combining old folk melodies with contemporary sound design. The scenography of the shows, authentic national costumes, interaction with the audience, and contemporary pop-style musical arrangements immerse spectators in the atmosphere of ancient Russian culture through a lens of the modern world.
