Days of Culture of South Ossetia will open in MoscowThe events will run from 20 to 23 April
On 20 April, the program of the Days will open at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall with a concert by the Boris Galayev State Song and Dance Ensemble of the Republic of South Ossetia Simd. Founded in 1938, the ensemble is the keeper of Ossetian dance and song traditions; its name derives from the Simd round dance. For nearly 90 years, the ensemble has trained outstanding artists, and its achievements are marked by state awards. Audiences will discover the richness of Ossetian art — national dances accompanied by music played on authentic instruments.
On 22 and 23 April, the K. Khetagurov South Ossetian State Drama Theater will present productions of Ivanov based on A. Chekhov’s play, and The Black Burka — the play by Ossetian dramatist Geor Khugaev.
Ivanov, directed by Kazbek Dzheliyev and produced with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization Russian Seasons, tells the story of the moral crisis of landowner Nikolai Ivanov and brings up the questions of human nature and destiny. The Black Burka, also directed by Kazbek Dzheliyev, is a parable about fidelity, betrayal, love, and duty, in which the characters are portrayed as animals.
Russia and South Ossetia annually hold joint cultural events. For example, in 2025, a delegation from South Ossetia was welcomed in St. Petersburg, where, on the brink of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the Boris Galayev State Song and Dance Ensemble of the Republic of South Ossetia Simd performed for the first time on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall. Last June, as part of the Days of Russian Culture in South Ossetia, the K. Khetagurov South Ossetian State Drama Theatre hosted a concert by the Beryozka State Academic Choreographic Ensemble named after N. Nadezhdina of the Presidential Administrative Department of the Russian Federation.
With the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of South Ossetia. Organized by the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Culture ROSCONCERT.
