Nicaragua hosted the events aimed at promoting the Russian languageThe events took place from 9 to 12 December in Managua and Matagalpa

In the Republic of Nicaragua, the events within the framework of the project A Complex of Cultural Events Abroad Aimed at Promoting and Popularizing the Russian Language culminated on 12 December at the Rubén Darío National Theater with a gala concert featuring the Rubén Darío Youth Orchestra and Russian soloists.

Mikhail Ledenev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Nicaragua, attended the project’s events. “Today we are celebrating a special date—the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the law establishing Friendship Day between Russia and Nicaragua,” noted Mikhail Ledenev. “81 years ago, exactly on this day, diplomatic relations between our countries were officially established. Our friendship is the foundation of our diplomacy. And our culture is the fruit of human emotion. Now we will have the opportunity to enjoy the performance of the winners of various international competitions: the Tchaikovsky Competition, the Rachmaninoff Competition, the All-Russian Music Competition, soloists of the Bolshoi Theater, and wonderful musicians.

Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo, Special presidential envoy for the development of relations with the Russian Federation and Advisor to the President of the Republic of Nicaragua for Investment, Trade, and International Cooperation, was among the guests of the concert which concluded a series of the project events. “This evening marks a new chapter in cultural cooperation between Nicaragua and Russia. We welcome the participation of our Youth Symphony Orchestra, along with outstanding Russian musicians who shared their experience and knowledge with our people. We thank the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for organizing this series of cultural and educational events to promote the Russian language and culture, which have become a true cultural bridge, bringing us even closer together,” said Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo.

The concert featured leading Russian musicians: laureate of the I International Rachmaninoff Competition of Pianists, Composers and Conductors Philipp Selivanov (conductior), soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia opera company Vladislav Chizhov (baritone), laureate of the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition Polina Shabunina (soprano), laureate of the IV All-Russian Music Competition Mikhail Usov (violin), laureate of the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition Ivan Sendetsky (cello), laureate of the III All-Russian Music Competition and the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition Stanislav Korchagin (piano).

Today is a truly remarkable date, 12 December, the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. And this is the reason why we’re performing a Russian program here in Nicaragua with a Nicaraguan orchestra,” said Philipp Selivanov. “It’s a great honor for me to represent our country. I would like to extend my deep gratitude to the Russian Ministry of Culture and ROSCONCERT, who made this tour possible. Countries and peoples should be friends and should exchange cultural experiences.

The evening’s program included works by Russian composers: Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Alexander Borodin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Reinhold Glière, and others. The finale of the evening featured Nicaraguan Rhapsody by contemporary composer Patricio Molina.

Earlier, on 11 December, Vladislav Chizhov, Polina Shabunina, and Ivan Sendetsky conducted master classes for Nicaraguan musicians at the Ruben Darío National Theater, the National Palace of Culture, and the Incanto Nicaraguan Institute of Lyrical Singing.

From 9 to 12 December, lectures on theRussian language were held in schools and universities. The educational events took place in Managua, the capital of the Republic of Nicaragua, and Matagalpa, a city located on the banks of the Rio Grande River. Maria Lontskaya, Senior Lecturer at the Russian Language Department No. 1 of the Russian Language Institute at the Patrice Lulumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, and Angelina Pshenichnikova, Assistant Lecturer at the Russian Language Department No. 1, delivered lectures for students of varying levels of proficiency in Russian on the topics: The Russian Language Today, Welcome to Russia, New Year in Russia, and a workshop Writing a Letter to Santa Claus and Decorating a Christmas Tree. In addition, on 11 December, the photo exhibition The Many Faces of Russia opened in the foyer of the Rubén Darío National Theater, which offers visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the diversity and beauty of Russia’s regions. Each image is more than just a picture, but an entire story, reflecting the richness of our country’s cultural heritage, architectural masterpieces, and natural landscapes. The exhibition will be on display in the theater’s foyer until the end of December.
