Events aimed at promoting the Russian language were held in the Republic of Djibouti.The events took place from 15 to 17 November
The grand opening of events within the framework of the project A Complex of cultural events abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language took place on 15 November at the People’s Palace in Djibouti, the capital of the republic.
Mikhail Golovanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Djibouti and the Federal Republic of Somalia, was the guest of honor. He greeted the audience and thanked the administration of Djibouti for its support. “I am pleased to see the active development of cultural and humanitarian contacts between Russia and Djibouti. Days of Russian Culture in Djibouti demonstrates the traditionally friendly relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Djibouti and the high level of our multifaceted bilateral relations,” noted Mikhail Golovanov.
Hibo Moumin Assoweh, Minister of Youth and Culture of the Republic of Djibouti, also delivered a welcoming speech at the ceremony. The event was attended by Prime Minister of Djibouti Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed.
Djiboutian audiences were offered a concert program by the Moscow Folk Choir, in which the choir performed folk music from various regions of Russia in a new sound, as well as popular songs by Soviet and Russian composers in original arrangements.
On the same day, the opening of the Russian Film Festival in Djibouti, organized by ROSKINO, took place. Over the course of three days, five movies were screened at the National Library of Djibouti: the historical war drama His Name Was Not Listed by Sergei Korotayev (2025), the historical war drama Karuza by Ivan Kharatyan (2025), the animated film for family audience The Magnificent Five by Vasily Rovensky (2023), the animated film featuring Russian folk tales characters Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf-6 by Darina Schmidt and Konstantin Feoktistov (2024), and the adventure fantasy Finist. The First Bogatyr by Dmitry Dyachenko (2024).
A series of events concluded on 16 and 17 November at the National Library, where teachers from the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba delivered three lectures: Speaking and Playing in Russian: Sounds, Counting, and Colors; What is the Russian Language Like? and Meet Russia!
The main goal of the project A Complex of cultural events abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language is to increase interest in the study of the Russian language and Russian culture. Events have already taken place in Tanzania, Myanmar, Venezuela, Morocco, Brazil, Laos, Oman, and North Korea, and the project’s geographic reach continues to expand annually. In November, events will be held in Turkmenistan.
