The capital of Oman will host events promoting the Russian languageOn 15 and 16 December, 2024, Muscat will host a series of events which are part of the project “Complex of cultural events abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language.”
The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Events in Oman are organized by the Federal State Budgetary Institution ROSCONCERT.
On 15 December, the exhibition RUSSIA will open at the National Museum of Oman.
The exhibition will feature photographs of Russian natural treasures, examples of wooden and stone architecture, cities taken from an unusual angle, and much more. On the same day, the guests of the folklore gathering “Vecherka” (“Evening Party”) will have an opportunity to get acquainted with the old Russian tradition of spending leisure time.
Оn 15 December, the State Academic Northern Russian Folk Choir will give a concert. The renowned choir directed by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, professor of the Department of Choral and Solo Folk Singing of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music Svetlana Ignatyeva, will introduce the residents of Muscat to the song culture of the Russian North. According to the Pomor tradition, this unique choir, founded in 1926 in Veliky Ustyug, consists only of female voices.
On 16 December, a senior teacher at the Russian Language Department of the Institute of Russian Language and Culture of the Lomonosov Moscow State University Alexander Sumin will deliver a lecture for beginners in learning Russian at the National Museum of Oman. Part of the lesson will be devoted to the works of A.S. Pushkin, whose 225th anniversary is celebrated this year. Another musical evening party “Vecherka” will conclude the program.
The December events in the Sultanate of Oman will complete the project “Complex of cultural events abroad aimed at promoting and popularizing the Russian language” in 2024.
A large-scale cultural project aimed at popularization of the Russian language was launched by the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2023 and includes an educational program, as well as concerts by Russian national folk groups, which allow residents of foreign countries to appreciate the beauty and poetry of the Russian language and make closer acquaintance with the treasures of Russian culture. In 2023, the project was successfully held in Tanzania, Myanmar, Venezuela, Morocco, and this year – in Brazil and Laos.
