The Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors was established in 2021 in the run-up to the 150th anniversary of the composer and the Year of Music in the Russian Federation in 2023. The Competition was established by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. People’s artist of Russia Denis Matsuev is the initiator and Artistic Director of the Competition.
The Rachmaninoff Competition is intended to become an authoritative platform for broad discussions and demonstration of achievements in performance art of pianists and conductors as well as works of contemporary composers.
The Competition will contribute to preservation and promotion of Rachmaninoff’s creative heritage, create more opportunities to find young talented musicians and support their professional activities.
Composer Sergei Rachmaninoff is a symbol of the Russian national and world music culture. Rachmaninoff’s compositions are included in the curriculum of all levels of musical education, they occupy leading positions in repertoires of the world’s greatest musicians, and are in mandatory programs of authoritative international performing competitions.
The Competition is held in three categories: piano, conducting and composition, which reflects the genius of Rachmaninoff, an unparalleled piano virtuoso, a brilliant conductor and a great composer, who left an immense cultural heritage.
